Microsoft has officially commented on the Microsoft Points pirating incident, saying that the hackers reported theft of $1.2 million dollars worth of virtual goods and monies is "inaccurate."

"We can't share specific numbers, but the figure is nowhere near the amount that has been reported," a Microsoft representative told Gamasutra. "We are aware of the situation and have taken steps to invalidate the codes obtained illegitimately … Our Policy and Enforcement team is evaluating whether or not certain individuals have violated the Terms of Use for Xbox Live and will take the appropriate enforcement on an individual basis.”

The hackers total take might be in doubt, but as we predicted Microsoft’s banhammer is polished to a high shine and ready to swing.
