Nintendo’s glasses-free 3D portable, the 3DS, has only been out for a few days and already there have been numerous reports of a failure occurring while playing any of the launch titles, which has now been christened the “black screen of death” by the wonders of internet.

“An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER Button to turn of the power, then turn it on and try again,” read the on-screen instructions as the error pops up in a black and white manner. It continues, “if the problem persists, please contact your local customer support centre. For contact details, check the Operations Manual or visit support.nintendo.com.”

Users have resolved this issue by following the instructions above or by reformatting their SD cards to FAT-32 format. Those who haven’t been able to eliminate the problem have turned to retailers for support and replacement. We’re yet to find info on whether these crashes have actually bricked consoles or not, but we’re sure we’ll find out soon enough.

Make yourself heard, have any of you 3DS owners experienced this?
