No game is safe from the clutches of online multiplayer these days, and those that avoid it have to offer something else darn impressive to justify it. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of those games.

With a huge, free-roaming RPG on the table, we weren’t expecting the game to offer any sort of an online mode. Nevertheless game director Todd Howard has given reason for its absence. He told IGN: “We always look into multiplayer, put lots of ideas on the whiteboard, and it always loses. It’s not that we don’t like it. I can think of ways it would be a lot of fun, but at the end of the day, that dev time is going to take away from doing the best single-player game we can, and that’s where our hearts are.”

It’s always encouraging to see a developer focus on what they know they can do best. Hopefully that approach will pay off for Skyrim come November.

On another note, today saw the release of six new screenshots. Have a look at them here.
