Competition is the lifeblood of capitalism, nay, the lifeblood of America. We love a good David and Goliath story, too. Even though Ubisoft is in no way a David of the industry, it’s abundantly clear that Activision and EA are Goliaths. And Ubisoft is comin’ for ‘em. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke to MCV after winning their Grand Prix award and when asked about EA’s decision to sell off its stake in Ubisoft last year commented that it made the company “feel a lot better”.

"When they left it changed lots of things for us. We had a competitor owning a share of the company and we were always wary that they could decide they would go for the company – and that wouldn't have been welcome.”

He added, “so now we are totally independent again, we feel a lot better, we are number three and our goal is to beat those guys, EA and Activision, at some point."

They still have a long way to go to beat Activision and EA, whose projected revenues nearly triple that of Ubisoft’s. Still, Guillemot remains hopeful: "We got from number 25 to number three, so we think that we can continue and that it is possible to be number one. It's not certain, but we are taking the steps that we think will get us there.”
