The PlayStation-certified Xperia Play will not be launching in the UK next week as planned, for O2 customers at the very least.

The mobile phone giant has reported that they will not be selling the phone after discovering several bugs in the system. Head of testing Stuart Hibberd explained: “We’ve been testing the phone non-stop for weeks and have found some bugs in the software that, if they’re not fixed, means customers won’t have a great experience. We’ve been working with Sony Ericsson to get these bugs ironed out, but haven’t been able to get them fixed in time for us to be able to launch the phone on 1st April as we originally planned.”

The statement concluded with the promise that O2 would work with Sony to iron out these bugs over the coming weeks. Other distributors have not announced a delay so far.
