The launch day freebie for Battlefield 3 — Back to Karkand content pack — will feature a few more maps than the Battlefield 2 throwback to Strike at Karkand. Not surprisingly, the ever persistent map Wake Island from Battlefield: 1942 will be making an appearance as well Golf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula from Battlefield 2.
The news came from DICE community manager Daniel Matros via a post on the official BF3 forum page. When a player asked Matros if there would be anymore throwback maps coming to the game, he politely declined to comment. Despite that, the news of four retro fan-favorite maps that we get for free, is icing on the cake for Battlefield fans everywhere.
