FrontierVille made history as one of the first Facebook games that offered players the option of having same-sex marriages. And now, in a series of missions that were released for Valentine's Day, players have the option of igniting the flames between two lady characters -- Fanny the sassy schoolmarm and Bess the friendly farmhand.
It's refreshing to see that FrontierVille is giving players a variety of options (even though there was no option to pair Hank with another male character from the game), and I'm surprised that this, frankly, groundbreaking mission didn't elicit more attention when it rolled out about a week ago.
I remember people raising a fuss about the ability to have same-sex partners (and relations) in the popular PC game The Sims way back when, and in later versions of the game, Sims of the same sex could get married and have babies. More recently, eyebrows were raised by the girl-on-girl action in the hit game Mass Effect as well as the girl/girl and boy/boy action in Dragon Age. Maybe there's been no real buzz about this FrontierVille pairing because it's completely G-rated. There's no action to see here other than the implied: Fanny 'n Bess, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.
I've reached out to Zynga for additional comment. Stay tuned.
